They pass students on without any real skills. Talking to a 4th grade teacher of a student who never turned in any amount of homework, her real frustration was with the mother who didn't see the point of homework and refused to help with his assignments. The poor teacher basically gave him everything he would need for a project and have him come back with the results. And this is a private parochial school. Her concern was the administration was going to pass him regardless.

And that's what happens. School has become a hurdle to just get through regardless of whether a student knows anything or not. And teachers are powerless to stop passing students because it's all political now.

Undergrads are becoming that way too. The Spanish department at one of the higher ed schools started carding people at the beginning of classes and before any mid-terms or finals. The reason is because a student actually paid someone to attend class and take all the tests but showed up all confused for the final. He didn't know his prof or his TA and that's when they realized he'd never even been to a class.

So what you say about students and papers gives me flash backs to when I was a TA. We had a pop quiz and student's thought it was open book. I guess they never had a pop quiz ever. Or the numerous times I'd work with a student to help give a presentation in class and they failed utterly to do any of the research. I had no sympathy. I just politely let them deal. Some people just need to flunk out and go to trade school.Deltaflutehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00489950329698009256noreply@blogger.com
